My Rating:
My Review: Written (in part) and directed by Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep, Be Kind Rewind). Starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Tom Wilkinson, Elijah Wood and others. This one is a winner (won an oscar for best screen play in 2005 - Kate Winslet was nominated for best actor. Another 36 wins & 50 nominations). It takes place in the recent past, present, future? It's hard to tell exactly. The film carefully avoids any specific characterization in regards to period. The story - When your relationship goes bad, you can have the memory selectively erased. As if you'd never met/known the person - really? Two lovers (Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet) have the procedure performed after a particularly acrimonious break-up. During and after the procedure, they wish that they hadn't undergone the procedure. With several twists and turns, this quirky and original romance is a fantastic drama with sci-fi flourishes. The acting and direction were superb, the pacing fantastic, the camera work and set work amazing and the music brilliant.

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Starring: Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T. Jones
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Studio: Paramount Home Video   Release date: 1997   Rated: R
Language (Country): English, Latin (UK, USA)
Summary: Drawing from Andrei Tarkovsky's heady science fiction meditation "Solaris" by way of "Alien" and "Hellraiser", this visually splendid but pulpy piece of science fiction schlock concerns a mission in the year 2047 to investigate the experimental American spaceship "Event Horizon", which disappeared seven years previously and suddenly, out of nowhere, reappeared in the orbit of Neptune. Laurence Fishburne stars as mission commander Captain Miller and Sam Neill is Dr. Weir, the scientist who designed the mystery ship. Miller's T-shirt- and army-green-clad crew of smart-talking pros finds a ship dead and deserted, but further investigations turn up blood, corpses, dismembered body parts, and a decidedly unearthly presence. It turns out that the ship is really a space-age haunted house where spooky (and obviously impossible) visions lure each of the crew members into situations they should know better than to enter. The ship is gorgeously designed, borrowing from the dark, organic look of "Alien" and adding the menacing touch of teeth sprouting from bulwark doors and clawlike spikes inexplicably shooting out of the engine room floor. Unfortunately the film is not nearly as inventive as the production design--it turns into a woefully inconsistent psychic monster movie that sacrifices mood for tepid shocks--but the special effects are topnotch, and ultimately the movie has a trashy B movie charm about it. "--Sean Axmaker"
My Rating:
My Review: Recommended by a friend. I've seen this movie before, but I never fully appreciated the film. A great sci-fi horror flick. The crew of a spaceship is on a rescue mission. When they find a derelict spacecraft, they soon experience concentrated evil onboard the "Event Horizon". Excellent special effects and sound. The acting was pretty good as well.

Director: David Cronenberg
Starring: Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jude Law, Ian Holm, Willem Dafoe, Don McKellar
Genre: Sci-Fi
Studio: Dimension Films   Release date: 1999   Rated: R
Language (Country): English, French (Canada)
Summary: Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as a game designer who creates a virtual-reality game that taps into the players' minds.
My Rating:
My Review: Wow! Mind blowing, reality twisting sci-fi. The first time I saw this movie (back in 1999), I was a bit put-off by the incredibly twisted plot. This time around I loved it. Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jude Law, Ian Holm and Willem Dafoe. This movie was written and directed by David Cronenberg. Cronenberg has directed some of my favorite movies: Naked Lunch, The dead zone, Videodrome, and Scanners. This movie reminded me a lot of Naked Lunch. What was it about? Try this out for starters. Video games that are living, weapons made out of organic material, teeth for bullets, games inside of games, revolutions and alternate reality. The casting was absolutely fantastic. The acting was intentionally stage like. The music was great; it really evoked an other-worldly feel. The props, costumes and sets were great.

Director: William Friedkin
Starring: Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller, Lee J. Cobb, Kitty Winn
Genre: Horror
Studio: Warner Bros.   Release date: 1973   Rated: R
Language (Country): English (Pan &#38, Scan), English (Widescreen), French (USA)
Summary: A 12 year old girl is possessed by the devil and her only hope is an exorcism.
My Rating:
My Review: Classic throat quivering primal fear. This version of William Blatty's 'The Exorcist' contains 11 minutes worth of previous cut footage. Directed by William Friedkin, this is one very scary movie. Excellent acting, great sound track and sound production. Great characters, fantastic sets and locations. An innocent little girl is possessed by 'The Devil'. Conventional doctors completely fail the desparate mother, who finally turns to the Catholic church for an exorcism. This movie spawned an entire string of 'look-a-likes'.
